School Hours! Plan now to have your students at E. R. Dickson on time! Students will enter their classrooms beginning at 7:45 a.m. The school day begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. All students should be in their classrooms and ready for instruction by 8:00 a.m. The Tardy Bell rings at 8:00 a.m. Please avoid being tardy by planning ahead! Top Accelerated Reader Students and Classes Announced Harrison Fant was selected to present his artwork in the atrium of Government Plaza for Celebrate the Arts. Celebrate the Arts is an annual art show for Mobile County Public Schools. Harrison was recently honored during a reception and posed with his artwork, "The Textured Turtle." E. R. Dickson's Teacher of the Year is Jennifer Burris, 1st Grade Teacher. Mrs. Burris was honored by the PTA on Recognition Night, March 2nd. Mrs. Burris was selected for her outstanding commitment to her students, school and community. Congratulations, Mrs. Burris! We are so proud of you! Accelerated Reader Today - Check out what we have been reading today! Congratulations to Mark Fusaiotti, 5th Grade Student, for being selected as E. R. Dickson's Red Ribbon Representative. Mark was selected by the faculty and students for his leadership and commitment to a drug-free life style. Mark led the activities at Dickson during Red Ribbon week. He was also honored recently at the Red Ribbon Leadership Award banquet.
2nd Quarter Accelerated Reader Reception - E.R. Dickson Elementary’s Principal, Mrs. Missy Nolen, held an A.R. Reception for the top 5 students point earners in each grade. There was a reception for grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and another reception for grades 3 through 5. The students discussed their favorite books, as well as why they enjoy reading, with Mrs. Nolen. They were served refreshments of cookies and juice and given treat bags containing coupons, bookmarks, and other “goodies”. Gorgeous Gobbler Turkey Contest ... 109 Wonderful Turkeys graced the Media Center during our Gorgeous Gobbler Turkey Contest. This year's Gorgeous Gobbler award went to Jala Moulds in Mrs. Dauenheimer's 1st Grade class. Ribbons and other prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners on each grade level. Mrs. Vivian Schultz, Kindergarten Teacher, was designated as Reading Teacher of the Year by the Metro Mobile Reading Council. Mrs. Schultz received her award from Betsey Gillespie, Metro Mobile Reading Council President, on Thursday, September 17th. Parenting Development Opportunities We recycle printer cartridges and digital cell phones! Dickson's Artists shine in the Alabama Marine Resources calendar and Greater Gulf States Fair. ERD Honor Chorus Members Named! Congratulations to Jordan Higgins, Jillian Parker, Daijah Williams, Trayon Hobbs, Taylor Emmertson, Taylor Kyle, Brooke Graham and Tynesha Elliott for being selected as Honors Chorus members for this school year. These students will be participating in special musical presentations throughout the year. Congratulations! We look forward to each upcoming performance! Walk Your Child to School Day was held on Oct. 7th. Many parents and students joined in on this event. E. R. Dickson teachers and students cheered the walkers on as they made their way to school in the heat and humidity. Members of the USA Jaguar football team and the USA mascot joined the walk along with the Murphy Cheerleaders. Thanks to all who made this event a success! Student Council Officers Elected at E. R. Dickson. Five young ladies have been elected to serve as Student Council Officers for the 2009-2010 school year. Student campaigns were held last week followed by candidate speeches on Friday, September 18th. The following students were elected by the student body: Claire Travis, President; Lexy Johnston, Vice President; Elisabeth Turner, Secretary; Blakeney Edmond, Treasurer and Taylor Emmertson, Historian Mrs. Vivian Schultz, Kindergarten teacher, has been selected as one of the top ten finalists for the Reading Teacher of the Year for the Metro Mobile Reading Council. Mrs. Schultz will be recognized at Mobile Metro Reading Council’s meeting in September. Cash Back for Schools at Office Depot Parents' Resource Center
