Principal's Corner

Letter to Parents

Welcome to the 2014-15 school year at E.R. Dickson Elementary School!

“Commitment to Excellence” is our guiding motto this year at E.R. Dickson. We are excited about another spectacular year of learning for your student. As a MCPSS Innovation School this year, our focus will be on Rigor, Relevance and Relationships.

The instructional staff at E.R. Dickson is committed to providing high-quality instruction and has been well-trained on current, research-based educational practices to foster student growth on all levels.

It is our desire for your child to have a well-rounded experience at E.R. Dickson and an experience that prepares your child for the curricular rigor and demands of middle and high school and beyond. This will be accomplished by focusing on the College and Career Ready Standards daily and by addressing all student needs as outlined in Alabama’s Plan 2020.

This year, students at E.R. Dickson will be taught from an interdisciplinary, thematic curricular unit of study approach. Numerous performance tasks and projects will be assigned to students to further their academic growth at higher levels. Inquiry-based instruction will also be our focus.

I am excited to announce that we will have a science lab this year in operation for our fourth and fifth grade students for hands-on instruction. Our science coach will also be available to assist all grade levels with curricular planning.

I am also excited about the addition of an Archery Club at Dickson. This year, we are the recipient of a Fruit and Vegetable Grant. Your student will have the opportunity to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables daily.

As supporters of educator, your assistance is need in numerous ways in order to continue the level of academic excellence and success. I welcome your participation and I value your input. I strongly encourage you to become active with the E.R. Dickson PTA and to participate in upcoming school activities, meetings, etc. You will be well informed of our school activities in a multitude of ways.

Academic Excellence: “It Starts with Us” at E.R. Dickson.

Respectfully,

Katryna Lowery Kinn
